2026-2027 SCHOLAR CYCLE — INVITATION TO APPLY

The Atlas Medical Foundation invites applications for the 2027 Wiregrass Medical Education Collaborative (WMEC) Scholars Program.

This program was established to support students whose work will contribute to the long-term health, stability, and resilience of communities—particularly within the Wiregrass region. Through a structured and committee-based selection process, the Foundation invests in students pursuing pathways in medicine, education, and technical fields essential to community health systems.

Applicants will be evaluated within one of three scholarship tracks:

  • Medical Sciences

  • Science and Mathematics Education

  • Trades and Engineering

The transition into professional formation is not only academic, but directional. The WMEC Scholars Program is intended for students who are already orienting themselves toward work that reflects an emerging commitment to responsibility and service to others.

APPLICATION FOR 2026-2027 SCHOLAR CYCLE

Greetings, and thank you for committing your gifts to the service of others.

The practice of medicine. The work of teaching. The building of systems that sustain communities. Each shares a common foundation: an orientation toward finding and enriching the good of humanity. They require not only knowledge, but a way of seeing—of recognizing what is needed and choosing to move toward it. They are paths that ask something of us: attention, responsibility, and a willingness to remain present to both difficulty and possibility.

At their best, these callings are not roles we step into, but expressions of who we are. You are a human being first. The work you choose—whether in medicine, education, or technical craft — is most meaningful when it grows out of that foundation, when it reflects your capacity to care, to notice, and to remain present to others. It is not a matter of becoming something else, but of bringing your humanity more fully into what you do.

If you are here, you may be standing at the edge of a future not yet fully visible. What matters is not certainty, but orientation. This scholarship exists because the distance between ability and opportunity should not be impassable. It exists to support those already beginning to move toward their work, toward the people around them, and toward the responsibility that is waiting for them.

We look forward to hearing how you are finding your way toward your own good, and toward the lives you will touch and the communities your work will help to sustain.
